Bank-connected apps can build a record for you. A manual ledger serves a different need. You see each entry, choose its category, and decide how much detail belongs in your record.
Manual tracking gives each entry context.
A bank statement records the amount and merchant. It cannot know whether dinner was a work expense, a family celebration, or part of a trip. You can add that context while the purchase is fresh.
The habit becomes hard when an app asks for too many fields. JotWell starts with the amount and keeps category, date, note, tags, merchant, and payment method within reach. Optional fields stay optional.
Record enough detail to make the ledger useful. Leave the rest blank.
Choose the fastest input for the moment.
Type a quick entry
Enter the amount, pick a favorite category, and save. Add a note when you will need the context later.
Use on-device voice
Speak one transaction or talk through several recent purchases. JotWell turns the transcript into editable drafts. You review them before they enter the ledger.
Review SMS suggestions on Android
Open Import via SMS, choose a date range, and grant permission if you want to use the feature. JotWell processes messages on the device and shows possible entries for review.
Share text on iPhone
Send selected text or a link to JotWell through the Share Sheet. You can also build a personal Shortcuts automation that passes matching message text to JotWell. The app prepares an editable draft from the text it receives.
Use a routine you can keep.
- Add the amount at the time of purchase or during a short daily check-in.
- Review recent entries once a week and correct dates, categories, or notes.
- Open the monthly view when you want totals and category patterns.
Recurring entries handle repeat income and expenses. Widgets and reminders keep the next check-in close without exposing details you choose to hide.
Your working ledger stays on your phone.
JotWell does not require an account, bank credentials, or a JotWell cloud profile. The Android and iPhone apps contain no ads or third-party analytics.
